Century Plant

Posted by willow (Chelsea, United States) on 6 January 2009 in Abstract & Conceptual and Portfolio.

This is a bloom of the Century Plant or Maguey (Agave americana). It is an agave that is native to Mexico and the southwest. It's name comes from the fact that it blooms only once in its lifetime and then dies out, although, the life cycle is more like 25 years rather than a true century.

This image is another attempt to push my own limits as well. I don't usually do much post-processing to my images, probably more out of fear and ignorance than anything, but, even though I liked the original shot, I decided to try playing with it a bit. In the end I really only tweaked the color saturation and contrast a little, but I am really happy with the result. Please, let me know what you think - too much? Or just right?
