Happy New Year

OK, so you might be asking, "What does this image have to do with New Year's?". Well, I must admit that there are no party hats or glasses of champagne or any of the other "traditional" New Year's accoutrement. In fact, this is just another image taken in Sedona near the top of Bell Rock.

And I also realize that I'm breaking all the rules with this one - "Don't shoot directly into the sun, rule of thirds, blah, blah, blah..." What can I say? I'm a rebel. There is a method to my madness, however. Today is the start of a new year; a time to contemplate the past and plan for the future. Well, my plan for the future is to break more rules, to break out of my self-imposed box, and to explore new and different territory in many areas of my life both literally and figuratively and, most importantly, through my photography. Might as well start today, huh?

So I thumbed my nose at all the rules and pointed my camera at the sun and I absolutely love the result. I also think it's perfect for a series on Sedona. There are many people who believe that Sedona is a magical place, a center of healing perhaps. Bell Rock itself is purported to be one of several "vortexes" of energy in the Sedona area. I'm not really sure what I believe about all that, but I do know that I feel so much more alive when I am there that it will always be a special place for me.

I wish you all a Happy New Year and if I am able to share even a little bit of the magic of this place with you, I have started my 2009 out well.

Thank you for visiting and commenting and sharing your photos! I love this site and all the people that make it so great. Photography is my passion and this is the perfect place for sharing that passion with other people who feel the same way.
